We are so pleased to announce the launch of Is There a Better Way for Professionals and Providers.
Is There a Better Way for professionals and disability providers delves into a deeper understanding about why people may show us that they are finding it hard to control their actions, stressed, distressed or dysregulated. Informed by contemporary human rights, relationship, regulation and neurobiological lens' we take people on a journey to unpack our understanding of people's experiences and what is important to meet people's needs and implementation of supports. We finish our discussion by briefly looking at how to partner with families and individuals, recognising that good quality support looks at the wellbeing of all people including the person and their support network.
Developed by the Microboard's team including Debbie Lobb, developer and lecturer of the Post Graduate Certificate Unit at Edith Cowan University - Behaviour support for people with complex needs and Jaquie Mills, sector leader in individualised, rights based disability support, this course brings a contemporary lens to the concept of Positive Behaviour Support. It brings together information from both our successful support for people and families through our Is There a Better Way program for families and core concepts also discussed and shared in the Edith Cowan University Post Graduate Certificate.
Throughout this course we talk about and plan for support from a person centred, neurodiverse affirming and wellbeing approach, allowing professionals and providers to establish a cultural lens of embedding support in everyday practice to meet people’s needs and therefore increase the wellbeing of the people we support and a reduction in behaviour that can concern others.
It provides the platform for our lens and understanding about people and the meaning behind behaviour to inform our everyday practice, team reflection and the support we provide to others.

In summary, course participants can expect:
17 weeks of continuous learning (2 hours per week), both live and online webinars. Live sessions will be accessible to view at people's own pace if you cannot make the session.
Each live session will include facilitated discussion and coaching around course content and real life application.
A members course area where all course content is accessible to view and review for 12 months.

Workbooks, templates and tools to use in your ongoing work with individuals, families and support networks.
This equates to approx 35 hours of learning and course content!
Our courses are capped at smaller groups of participants so we can connect on a more personal level with participants to facilitate discussion and share experiences. Before we leave you, some things professionals have had to say about our approach, courses, our work and what we offer to professional practice.
"I am so grateful for all that I have learned.. while also very aware that there is so much more to learn in regards to how we support individuals with complex needs. Thank you so much for guiding me on this learning journey and sharing your knowledge and experience with me. I am excited to apply what I have learned and support others on their own learning journey."
"The learning of the content for this course has been transformational in my understanding of behaviour; challenging or otherwise. For most of my career, I have provided ‘interventions’ to clients. I previously worked in the role as a positive behaviour support practitioner (PBSP), and I have realised that my understanding was unrefined and lacked depth about how positive behaviour support (PBS) processes addressed behaviour support. Now I have a greater understanding of behaviour from a needs-based perspective as part of a co-regulation framework. I am incredibly grateful fo this learning."
"Overall, I believe this course has transformed the way I will respond to challenging behaviours moving forward. I’m so grateful to have completed this and I hope that I have the opportunity to use this knowledge in my practice going forward, knowing that systems change is the hardest of all."
"I have never received so much information that I can implement in my work or my life before. I can not recommend your course enough. It has helped me grow so much as a support worker as well as a person. I feel that it has changed the relationship between myself and the person I support in a positive way."
